Product Description
Honeywell 12 Watt Roof Mount Solar Attic Fan Help reduce energy usage by exhausting hot air from attics by using a solar powered attic fan. Reduce potential mold and increase roof life by exhausting moist air. A whisper quiet 24 volt motor is powered by an industrial grade 12 watt solar panel that is thermostatically controlled; if the conditioned space reaches 85 degrees, the motor turns on and once it cools to 65 degrees, it will shut off. Unit will condition up to 1250 square feet. Powered by solar energy, there is zero cost usage and it does not require an electrician to install. The durable Grade 5 ASB shroud is impact and UV resistant. Shroud and panel are adjustable to maximize sun exposure. Oversized galvanized and powder coated flashing resists rust and protects against leaks. Wire mesh keeps unwanted rodents out. Limited 5 year warranty on the fan and 20 year warranty on the solar panel. May qualify for federal and/or local tax rebates.Honeywell 527SHON105BLK Roof Mount Solar Panel with Attic Fan, 12-Watt Review
Installation was easy as it was a replacement for existing vents. The instructions state to just raise the shingles up and slide the fan under if it's a replacement, my advice is to just remove the ones needed and put new ones up. Much easier. The motor fired up as soon as the sun hit it, if you are on the roof or in the attic it can be heard but not while in the yard or in the house. Make sure you have a good southern view for the position, my roof is ideally situated for solar powered devices. Only installed the one so far and have plans to replace my other vent as well. Moves a good amout of air but I think the claim of 1250 sq feet is a best case senario. Drawbacks are cloudy humid days, no sun obviously no power. The internal thermometer is also a concern of mine as the motor kicks on at 85 degrees and is supposed to cut off at 65 degrees. My attic has yet to get that cool in the summer so the motor runs as long as it has a charge, hopefuly it won't burn out anytime soon. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Honeywell 527SHON105BLK Roof Mount Solar Panel with Attic Fan, 12-Watt" are high quality item.
