This weed blocker fabric product looked appealing because it contained 50% renewable ingredients. So I bought a roll, laid it down in a landscaped area, and installed my drip irrigation system over it. When I went to test the irrigation, I was horrified to see that the water didn't penetrate the weed blocker fabric. It didn't even wet it, as it would ordinary black plastic. It just beaded, like water on a waxed car, and formed little pools in the low spots. Thirty hours later the pools were still there, minus evaporation. There was no way I was going to disassemble the irrigation system, so I had no choice but to take the fabric up in pieces, undoing the hours I spent fitting it around plants. I would simply do without a weed barrier, relying on mulch alone. Not a happy camper.

But I was lucky. When I tested the irrigation, I saw the defect. Many people would simply lay the fabric down, apply mulch, and walk away, unaware that a rain would create runoff, rather than wetting the soil. Did I get a bad roll? If I did, then lots of people did, or will. They don't make one roll at a time, but large numbers. It's on your home improvement store shelves, waiting for you to feel green and bite.

It didn't instantly kill the winter weeds in my lawn (applied in March) but did well to knock out the "nutgrass" or "nutsedge" that was beginning to look overgrown. It took about 6 days to kill it. The poa annua didn't die off as well, but did turn yellow, and I think will die off or at least thin out after one application. I'll probably reapply after two weeks. For these weeds, Image worked better than Ortho or Spectracide spot sprayers.

United Industries Corp Hg95702 Weed Stop Plus Crabgrass Killer Review

In the past, the only way to deal with crabgrass was a pre-emergence control. IMO these worked poorly at best and crabgrass always appeared with the summer heat, defacing a lawn which looked wonderful a month before.

I have now applied Weed Stop Plus Crabgrass Killer twice and the results are very good. I have a sunny slope which is a particular problem and has always been thick with crabgrass by August despite pre-emergence control. I applied this product once at the end of July and again a week or 2 into August using a tank sprayer. I observed all the precautions (temps under 85, no mowing 2 days before or after, etc.) and the area is now essentially crabgrass free with no significant damage to desirable grasses. This is an effective answer to one of the homeowner's most annoying landscaping problems.
