I purchased this product so that I would know if my generator needs attention before a power outage. This device does a very poor job in alerting a problem. The audible alert is almost silent and the lights flash for a millisecond so you litterally have to stand within one foot of the device to know if a problem exists or not.

Installation of the device on the actual generator is not as easy as Generac makes it sound, before purchasing the product I called Generac and was told you simply open the generator and plug the adapter in. Sounded very easy. Well it is not as easy as "just plugging it in" you have to unplug other wires and couple this to two different wiring harneses. Not that difficult but I was a bit leary on connecting the wires next to a point in the generator that has a warning of "DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE." Overall the instructions could have been a little better.

But I must stress that most people would purchase this so if their generator has problem and will not start they should receive a clear warning. I thought my device had a defective 'audible alert' and called Generac and they confirmed that the sound emitted from the device is very low and you do have to stand in front of it to know the correct status of your generator.

I would only reccomned this product to someone who has a generator that is very difficult to access the status lights or if you are physically unable to go outside and view the status lights.

Update 03/30/12: This device needs new batteries every 45 days. I am putting in brand new batteries. Very disapointed with this product.
