I don't write many reviews, but this product needs to be reviewed. I have owned the K-1733 model K9PC for 4 years. In this time the unit has failed 4 times and had to be removed and sent back to Kohler each time. Each time the unit has failed I have had to pay either an electrician or plumber around $180 to remove and then later re-install the unit. Even under warranty, my total cost for maintenance on this unit has exceeded one half the cost of the original product.

The first time it failed after almost 1 year of flawless operation. The unit began leaking water through the steam head and after some troubleshooting with Kohler, it was determined that a solenoid had failed. I had the unit removed and sent it back to be repaired under warranty.

1 year later the exact same problem occurred and again it had to be removed, mailed in, and repaired. Luckily it failed within 1 year of the first incident because Kohler only gives a 1 year warranty on repaired/refurbished steam generators.

The third time the generator failed, it was a different problem, but again, within the 1 year warranty period. There was a pop (like an electrical arc) in the unit and it stopped functioning completely. This time I had to have an electrician come out and troubleshoot the generator. Again Kohler decided it needed to be replaired. There had been a short in the power system of the unit.

Now again, the generator has failed for the fourth time. Today, as I was in the steam shower, i began to smell smoke. I turned off the steam and noted that there was significant smoke pouring into the shower through the steam nozzle. I quickly checked the adjacent closet that houses the steam generator and luckily whatever caused the fire/smoke remained isolated inside the unit. I shut off the power and here I go again. Only this time, the warranty has just expired less than 30 days ago.

I am completely disgusted with the quality and the continued failures of this unit. I would not recommend this unit or any other steam generators from Kohler at this time.
