ETQ IN1000I 1,000 Watt 63.1cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator Review
I have purchased the projector from a wholesaler for $125, it was a sweet deal indeed. I used it once so far and this is my initial review. I am tech savvy so I tested this unit in several ways I could for initial run. To begin with this is a very cute portable (not heavy at all) device that powered following items:1. Hair Dryer - 400 Watts
2. Two Tube Lights - 80 Watts
3. CFL Light - 25 Watts
4. 2 Fans - 200 Watts Approx
Total wattage close to 1000 Watts and overloaded with additional few hundred watts and the generator struggled and stuttered and made tube lights flicker. Initially it took few pulls to start but once it started it was fine, ran for hour and a half with 1 Liter of gas and still some was left. It is bit noisy and could hear it in a 30 ft. radius. I purchased this for emergency so during such circumstances noise will be a least concern anyway. The manual is written poorly and the ETQ website was unreachable so couldn't get better instructions for initial run. I had trouble to figure out the oil and gas mix ratio, finally I figured that for first 50 Hrs. you need to mix 30 ml 2 stroke oil for 1 Liter of gas. Measuring cup for oil is inside of the oil cap but didn't had any measure making it hard to figure but figured out that it is 50 ml cup which you need to use after 50 hours of use. You may want to hold the generator down really form when you start the unit, it is a little one and the pull is tough. Will update after few weeks after further testing.
UPDATE Feb 2013 - I started the generator to keep it in shape and left it running for 15 minutes with no load and it stopped suddenly, I thought it was low on gas and filled the gas and tried to start it.... It never started again I cleaned spark plug checked everything but it didn't start so I opened the shell of the generator and found that the head gasket blew open letting the pressure out... So far I had no luck trying to find gasket for this little sucker. I tried Lawn mower shops, hardware, Lowes etc., I am not sure if this is a throw away at this point of time. Taking the stars down to 3 due to reliability and service headaches for this product.
My advise is buy a branded one and save the trouble.
UPDATE Feb 2013 - I finally managed to find similar generator "Yamaha ET950 Engine Motor Generator" gasket set on Ebay and took my chance with $15. My guess was correct, the gasket matched the ETQ one, so I replaced it and it worked like a charm. After I replaced it I noticed that the generator starts much quickly(3 or less pulls) and tried few times in few days to make sure it is holding it good. I guess the head gasket for the unit was maybe in bad condition when I bought it and it gave up, probably it is my bad luck but everything is good so far. BTW: do not buy the parts from Generator Guru, they are very terrible in customer service and they made me wait for the gasket 3 weeks and didn't even send or bother to respond to my queries, stay away form them.
