First, this is a great charge controller. We had to call their tech line, and the guys are really sharp and easy to deal with.

Second. If you are grid-tie and don't usually use batteries much, then the default setting (for your bank type and voltage) is likely fine, although I *DO* recommend getting exact charge specs from your battery mfg...

But, if you are off-grid, you really, really must get battery specs. The midnite's bulk/absorb settings were too low (bout half of what was needed) and we ended up killing a cell due to this (that one cell, not the entire battery, was over $1000). Not saying this was their fault. Battery chemistry varies from mfg to mfg, and sometimes 1/4 volt makes a huge difference. And solar is still a do-it-yourself thing. We should have followed up more closely on our settings.

And even then, charge specs vary based on load, charge time, panel output, temp of batteries, ambient temp, how often you reach float (daily/weekly/not at all...), and so on.

CHECK your specific gravities. Know what they should be. We've got $15,000 worth of batteries now that I don't trust...

But, still a great charge controller. We are able to tweak voltage/amperage/time settings perfectly. We are not able to do the same with our charger built into the inverter.
