Old people don't want stare at blinking LED's and try to remember what the sequences of flashes mean. The backlight is good for when the lighting is low also. The data cable was pretty easy to trim. Just keep in mind you need a 6 pin connector to put on it. Other than that it seems well made and I'm glad I bought it to go with my Morningstar TS-MPPT-60.
