First off, yes the generator is new, but it is actually 5 years old. The Date of Manufacture is 2005. I received the generator with the packaging damaged and the control panel rear cover broke, no problem, nothing was damaged other than a shattered cover. I called the California office and they said they would send me a new rear cover out, a month later and still no cover. Hour meter quit after 9.4 hours and the capacitor started to warp, not putting out full voltage. I called the shop in Ohio and they said they would send me out the parts so I could replace it myself. I am a truck driver and I was using the generator to power my block heater and a space heater inside my cab. I also had two fans plugged into the generator to make sure it stayed cool since I had mounted the generator inside a box (5'x8'x9') behind my cab. Well the generator had been running great. It was using a descent amount of oil, but that actually started to taper off to just a few ounces every 6 hours(I figured the motor was starting to break in). It also has a starting problem, the electric started didn't want to grab on the first turn of the key, it sounded like it would just spin, but after a few attempts, (sometimes more, sometimes less) it would grab the flywheel and start. It also wouldn't turn off with the key, I had to flip the manual kill switch, but honestly these last two items didn't bother me considering the price I paid for the generator, I expected a few problems. Well tonight I went to start the generator, it ran for 30 seconds then the oil light came on(I had just topped it off before I started it) and it shut down. I tried to start it again after making sure the oil level was correct and it shut down again. I manually turned the motor over and it sounded like there was something loose in the bottom end of the motor. I wanted to take it apart myself and find out, but considering this is supposed to have a 1 yr/1000 hr warranty I decided not to and I am trying to find a shop to look at it. I gave it a one star rating because I was really upset that the generator was 5 years old! Also because of all the little problems and now the real big one. Who knows, I might change my mind after a shop looks at the motor and if they decide to honor their warranty. I bought this brand of diesel generator because a fair amount of the etq products on amazon.com have a descent star rating. We will see.
