I borrowed this generator from a family member on the 3rd day of a multi-day power outage, hoping to be able to save the fish in my tank. Temp in the house is down to 50F. Turns out this generator was not the right choice. The fish are dead now. The unit is 3 months old and has been used once during hurricane Irene last August. Here a summary of my experience.
First, I checked the oil, filled up with fresh gas, and follwed the start procedure step-by-step. The unit did not start at all. After pulling and pulling, it finally sputtered and started up. I tried to plug in the furnace - furnace gave me an error code ("replace main circuit board"). Then I tried the Saniflow upflush toilet - the pump rumbled a bit, but did not seem to turn and did not pump anything. Then I tried the fridge, but at that point the generator engine had stalled and would never again start up. I ripped the pull cord in the process before giving up and settling for another cold night.
The next morning I tried to get it fixed at one of the larger power equipment shops in the area. A kind gentleman offered to take a look while I waited. He said he could not service the engine, and the pull cord was not repairable because the spring was broken and it would not rewind.
I reseached service and parts locations in the US - it turns out that Hyundai outsourced this to some 3rd party that does not answer or return phone calls. In essence, this generator is a heap of metal in my yard that cannot be repaired because parts are not available and there is no service network. Stay away from this brand at all cost.
