Bonide Weed Beater Quart [Misc.] Review

The product arrived very promptly. It has limited availability in Southeastern PA and therefore I had to order it. Shipping costs drove up the price considerably.

Product has a blue dye that intensifies the color of the mixed product, allowing you to see the fill level easier on your sprayer. Simple but nice adder.

My problem is ground ivy, which is very aggressive in clay soils with a substantial amount of moisture. I have noticed some die off and other weakening of the weed from use of this product. I believe that the Trimec is the key ingredient to its success.
With my level of ground ivy, several applications are required to get this weed under control.
The product appears to do a reasonably good job.

Ortho MAX Poison Ivy Oak Tough Brush Killer Ready-to-Use - 24 oz. #0434060 Review

Poison Ivy will take a swig of Glyphosate (Round Up), gargle twice with it and spit it back into your face just for giggles... Triclopyr is what you need to knock out Poison Ivy, and this stuff has it.

This stuff is the real deal - I found it when I was trying to locate a product called Vine-X (hard to find - discontinued?) and found out that it was 8% Triclopyr. It's in a special dispenser where you could brush it on to the stump or active vines and it would kill the entire plant.

Because Poison Ivy is a creeping vine with multiple roots along it's length, eradication is helped with a higher concentration than the label instructs. (My observation) I use it between 50% to 100% (double) strength.

If you get the pre-mix, it will be at 0.7% concentration instead of 7% or 8% so you won't be able to use it at a higher concentration which is why I give this 3 stars.

This is to say that if you spray it in one spot you will kill that part of the vine, but if you hit it (in enough places) with something strong enough you can kill the whole plant down to the roots.

Make sure you spray it when you think it won't rain for at least a couple of days or else you will probably need to spray it again. Make sure you get all sprouts. My personal observation is that for every PI sprout there is another 3 feet of vine lurking around and another sprout hiding somewhere nearby.

Spraying this on to stumps of invasive shrubs like Buckthorn will prevent it from coming back.

I have bought this product from our local garden centers in the past. I don't have any problem with the performance of this product. Just be sure that you remove all weeds AND their roots before applying the product. It only hinders germination, it doesn't kill weeds or stop them from growing up from roots or root pieces.

I'm now trying to grow my veggies organically, though, so I no longer use this product for my edible plants. I really wish there would be more legislation on the use of the term "organic." This product is 100% corn gluten, and since corn is organic (meaning from a living thing as opposed to inorganic rocks, minerals, or man-made chemicals), this is an "organic" product. While I love the fact that they're not manufactured chemicals, you're still going to be adding any of the pesticides or herbicides that the farmer used to grow the corn when you buy this product. The company has no requirement that the corn be grown organically, so you can be assured of a nice variety of chemicals mixed in with your "organic" product.
